Obsession

The dark side of ambition

Ambition is the fire that keeps you moving forward, but letting it burn over it's limits creates obsession, which is like a black hole in your heart that sucks the fun out of every activity you enjoy. By aiming for the stars, you project all your actions in the future, taking the meaning out of the present. You begin to live in a constructed future of your own obsessed mind. You trap yourself into harmful thinking patterns. You become restless because you believe rest sets you back on your journey towards your goal, failing to realize that a journey without rest is impossible. You begin to see things that don't align with your goals as a distraction, but a journey without exploration is meaningless.

When the things you once enjoyed become a chore to you, this is a good indicator to take a step back and reflect. Why are you obsessing in the first place? Is it worth sacrificing the present for an uncertain future that lies far ahead of you? Are you maybe even blocking yourself from actual growth and exploration? By restricting yourself to certain interests and activities you limit yourself into static patterns and you fail to develop other parts of yourself, which might grow you more than you're currently believing.

When you finally reach one of the imaginary stars you set ahead of yourself, can you actually enjoy the achievement or do you immediately set out a new goal? If you answered this question with yes, that is a sign that you're actually running on unhealthy obsession and not meaning. Keep going like this and you will burn out sooner or later.

Ambition is this great gift of yours, which not many people have. Be grateful for it and learn to use it wisely, as exceeding its limits will trap you in an endless vicious cycle of wanting more and more.

I ask you to reflect on your path and if needed, initiate the change that was necessary all along. Thank you for your attention and until next time.
